A Cucumber Old Fashioned

So I’m definitely not the cocktail expert round here, that would be Shaylan…. but I am definitely trying to learn! While we were together in Florida a few weeks ago, we were shooting tons of content and Shaylan was our go to cocktail gal.

For St. Patrick’s Day we decided to keep it simple this year and just go with a really elegant cocktail - that of course was green. We landed on a Cucumber Old Fashion with a home made mint simple syrup…. talk about yum!

Cucumber old fashioned

  • 2 oz bourbon

  • 1/4 oz mint simple syrup*

  • 2 dashes orange bitters

  • 1 oz fresh cucumber juice*

Build this drink in your serving glass by first pouring in the simple syrup, followed by the bourbon, cucumber juice, and bitters. Add a little cracked ice and give a good stir.

Mint simple syrup

  1. Mix sugar and water on stove medium/high ish until dissolved

  2. Simmer with mint for about 20 minutes

  3. Strain out mint

  4. Let cool for at least 20 mins

Another great thing about this is that it’s the recipe that keep’s on giving! Once you’re simple syrup is made, keep it in your fridge for weeks in an airtight container like a mason jar. You can also mix things up by using ginger instead of mint.

And for our final shot, you know Maggie had to hook us up with a gold leaf clover backdrop.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
