Winter Tablescapes

I just recently watched the entire Game of Thrones series so now every time I hear the word: Winter, I think of: Winter is coming…

Meanwhile, we’re deep into the winter months and now spring is coming. Though the end of winter can feel quite long (especially thanks to the groundhog’s recent shadow) so to heat things up I am rounding up my favorite winter tablescapes.

The first thing I think of when setting the table for a dinner party in the winter is hot apple cider. It all starts around Thanksgiving when the apples are perfect for picking and goes through the end of winter. I like to put a jug of apple cider into a crock pot and let it sit out for my guests to serve themselves when I have a party. I add in cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves and orange slices.

As I write this post, it’s February 14th, Valentine’s Day so I can’t help but call out the table setting we did for a Galentine’s Slumber Party. How cozy, fun and SWEET is this?! We literally created a candy charcuterie out of my coffee table and watched movies and drank hot cocoa all night. Pretty perfect for a super cold day!

A couple of details that I find important for a winter tablescape are:
Food that you can pick at - when it’s cold outside and you’re bundled up on the inside, you don’t want to have to get up a lot. I like to serve food that can sit out for hours so my guests and nosh and enjoy all night long. Cheese, olives, figs and nuts are all great for a platter like this.
Fresh flowers - always. No matter what time of year it is, I am such a sucker for flowers. I just love the look, smell and color that they will bring to any tablescape.

It’s cold, it may be frosty, think silver, ice and bold flavors. I once set the table for a winter event that was covered in silver confetti. I just love the look of this tablescape because it was a true nod to the winter season and temperatures outside which can be so icy cold.

An appetizer that I just love to serve in the winter is a pear +gorgonzola crostini drizzled with balsamic vinegar. There’s something so cozy about these bold flavors being married together and I just love anything that is topped with Balsamic!

Last but not least, what do the winter months make me think of most? The snow. I once set a party with all white details and I just love how it turned out making it a go to for my winter tablescapes.
