Welcome to my house: in Florida - Part 1

IMG_2403.jpg

I think by now you know…I’m pretty kooky. So when you see what I have done to our new house in Florida thus far…it will all make perfect sense to you.

Now listen, I’m coming off of the darkest year of my entire life. Truly. My whole existence I’ve been a very happy person. Until 2020 came along and was all like…hold up here

Our move to Florida was pretty crazy in the sense that I wasn’t considering leaving new york. Ever. Never crossed my mind. The opposite actually…I was always like…I’ll never leave.

When we got to Florida it was very much like - oh well we’re just here temporarily. The people who we met along the way used to laugh at us and say, HAHA. Ya sure. We said the same thing and a year later bought a house.

Well here we are….

We don’t want to leave. And we bought a house.

Here’s how I made it the happiest place on earth and got our smiles back….

For starters, Color makes me feel joy. When consulting with Lisa and Maggie about my vision I suggested go big on color in the guest bedrooms and the unexpected…like the laundry room, where I spend so much of my time…

That leads us into the mud room. now this is a small, functional space where ya sorta just drop and roll. I added an unexpected pop of pattern in here and called it a day.

Now into the adult’s guest bedroom we go…This room simply screams FUN. Maggie designed a mural for the walls filled with so much color and her and Natalie spent countless hours painting all over the house for me. Unreal. I did not hold back with this room. As an unexpected pop of happiness, I chose a polka dot wallpaper for the closet and a zebra print paper for the bathroom!

My favorite part about this room though, is ode to my W Magazine collection. I have collected this magazine for 10 years and didn’t want to just throw it all away when we moved out of New York. So I chose my 9 favorite issues and had them framed. I sometimes just walk into this room and stare at them.

Now let’s head over into the kitchen. Gah I love the kitchen. It was bright, white and spacious! Perfect for the entertainer in me! I changed all of the hardware to matte black and I painted the bottom of the island black. Other than that I filled the dining room with a table and chairs and styled the heck out of all the open shelving. The kitchen is open concept with the living room in front and dining room off to the side and then sliding doors out to the yard. I wanted to keep this part of the house neutral so did so with black, white and grays. I added a pop of one color, yellow to the kitchen counter with bright yellow counter stools which created the perfect accent to the space.

When our belongings arrived from Manhattan, I needed HELP. There was no way I could unpack and have the house ready in time for school…the summer is cut so short! So I called on the organizing Super Heroes, Order & Co., to come in and spearhead the whole move. They organized all of my dishes beautifully into the cupboards, everything is easy to find and NOW…I have the pantry of my dreams. With a butler’s pantry. With a butler named, ME.

I’m going to share one more space and then do a part 2 (and probably part 3 and 4) because there is a lot to cover and we don’t have all day here. HA.

So I’m building a pool in the backyard. Feels like a necessity in this Sunshine State!
Off the pool there is a bathroom that we have now coined: The Pool Bath. It’s a half bath that had shiplap already on one of the walls so I kicked it up a notch with a pretty wallpaper and super fun vanity light! Most important part? Hooks on the back of the door for towels!!
