Refresh your House (again).

Bored? Ya me too. When you’re home and there’s not much to do, why not give your house a little makeover? Have you already done this over the past year of this pandemic? Well then repurpose the items you have by shaking things up and moving them around! If you haven’t been doing any home updates then … start now. Here are a few tips and easy ways to spruce things up in your home…

ADD A PLANT INTO YOUR LIFE

Never ever in my life did I want to own a plant. I am horrible at taking care of living things. However this pandemic has made me realize just how fragile life is and how something fresh and green can bring a lot of light into your life. I most recently added a plant to my front hallway and it I’m obsessed with it! Hopefully I won’t kill it …wish me luck.

Flowers, Candles, Accessories

Ok I can’t seem to get enough flowers, candles and accessories these days. Must be because I’ve been working from home for the past year and it makes me happy when the house smells nice and has fresh flowers in the kitchen. The Orange Juice vase that I keep in my kitchen is my favorite. Brightens my day whether there are flowers in it or not. I am tempted to buy candles every where I go. I find Target has a really great selection and I’ve also received tons as gifts, like this New York candle that my friend Gina gave to me last year.

In the house I am currently in, there is a little nook area that I wanted to cozy up. I worked with Maggie and her new company Nestia to bring this little area to life. We added a rocking chair, a side table and vase with fluffy pampas grass (which is still in it’s “fluffing” phase…needs a few more days!).

Another accessory that can spruce up a room is mirrors. My friend Lisa of Abaca Interiors helped me redecorate this room and found these rattan mirrors in various sizes on Wayfair. I love the idea of turning mirrors into art! So easy and perfectly fitting for a bedroom.

Unique Paint + Wallpaper
Now if you really want to have some fun…and you have a plan white wall to work with, take a cue from Maggie and PAINT IT! She makes it all look so easy and truly, it can be if you have a paint brush and some patience. Read all about her painting adventures and how to DIY here and here.

If you go ahead with a paint project, and have some leftover AND have a staircase that is in need of a facelift, paint an ombre staircase because…why not? Nothing can be crazier than the year we just had so why not go all out?!

One last idea for your paint brush…

A door! How genius? ANY door can be painted. I love how this door stands out to the crisp white walls in my entry way now and how easy is it to paint one side of a door for a quick and easy update to any room.

If you’re looking to get fancy…then cover a wall in your home with a funky wallpaper. This wallpaper that my friend Lisa sourced from Victoria Larson for me, brought so much life to this room. You’re punched in the face with this striking pattern every time you walk in.

Lighting

Another simple way to refresh a room is by changing a light fixture. There are so many incredible wall sconces, standing lamps, desk lamps and chandeliers to choose from online and what a great way to bring new light into your space.

Edit + Organize

Have you opened your closets lately? How do they look? Are they a mess? Well then get organizing! Pull out every item from your closet and toss what you no longer need and organize whatever is important to you. Of course if you need some inspiration, you can turn on The Home Edit and laugh and cry your way through their show on Netflix before you run to the Container Store to start organizing your entire house.
