DIY Citronella Candle

As summer approaches, we start to see those pesky bugs everywhere we turn. Whether you’re sitting outside with morning coffee or entertaining friends with wine, nothing ruins the party faster than getting eaten up! Citronella candles help a whole lot but that strong chemical smell can often be overwhelming. When Seri and I found this DIY trick, we had to test it out.

The supplies are simple:

  • sliced lemons and limes

  • rosemary

  • citronella essential oil

  • floating candles

  • water

  • mason jars

The steps are very easy, and you can really manipulate them to make each candle look the way you want it to.

  1. add water to the jar to about half full

  2. add 5-10 drops of the oil to the water

  3. add slices of limes and lemons to press up against the sides of the glass and fill the center with rosemary or any other herbs- you want it to be tightly packed so the candle can rest gently without moving too much in the water

  4. drop your candle on the top and let it burn!

What an easy summer DIY. And the best part is that the smells were fresh and light, just like the ingredients, while still keeping away the bugs!
